Punta Galera is one of West Ibiza’s most distinctive coastal spots, known for its dramatic flat rock formations, crystal-clear Mediterranean water and spectacular sunsets. Located just north of San Antonio, it offers a wonderfully natural alternative to Ibiza’s busier sandy beaches.
A Unique Ibiza Swimming Spot
Rather than a traditional beach, Punta Galera is formed from broad, layered rock terraces that descend towards the sea. These natural platforms provide plenty of places to stretch out in the sunshine, while the clear water makes Punta Galera a popular location for swimming and snorkelling.
The rocky seabed and transparent water are particularly appealing on calm days, so bringing a snorkel and mask is well worthwhile.
Punta Galera is also popular with naturists, and visitors should expect a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
One of the Best Sunset Spots in Ibiza
Facing west across the Mediterranean, Punta Galera is particularly beautiful towards the end of the day. Find a comfortable position on the rocks and watch the sun disappear over the horizon – it’s one of Ibiza’s most memorable natural sunset experiences.
Arriving well before sunset is recommended during the summer months, when this once-secret location can become considerably busier.
Facilities & What to Bring
Part of Punta Galera’s attraction is its unspoilt character. There are no permanent beach bars, restaurants, sun loungers or other typical beach facilities, so come prepared.
Bring plenty of drinking water, snacks, sun protection and suitable footwear for the rocky and uneven approach. There is no lifeguard, so take particular care when swimming and entering or leaving the water.
Getting to Punta Galera
Punta Galera is close to Sant Antoni de Portmany on Ibiza’s west coast, in the direction of Cala Salada. The final approach can be rough and parking is very limited, followed by a walk down to the rocks. Sensible footwear is strongly recommended.
Despite being a little harder to reach than many Ibiza beaches, that is part of Punta Galera’s charm. For clear water, snorkelling, dramatic scenery and an unforgettable Ibiza sunset, it is well worth discovering.
