What's New In Ibiza

Es Vedra 2021 Min

Ibiza is an ever evolving destination and adapating to the ever changing clientelle and trends in holiday travel

Every year some things change; some for the better and some..well let's says the jury is still out..it taken a few years to establish a business and a decade or 2 before you can really call your self part of the Ibiza establishment

Here are some of the bigger changes:

Destino Pacha Ibiza - we understand will be changing to Five Ibiza (Five Hotels & Resorts / The Five Hotels) from 2025

-

Even if you haven't been to Ibiza in a while you probably know that iconic and legendary nightclub SPACE closed in 2016 and morphed into HI - effectively a late night extension to Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel

There has been talk for many years of Space re-emerging like an old clubber being regenerated back to their early twenties...but so far just talk

-

PRIVILEGE, "the biggest club in the world" (and originally the legendary hedonistic Ku Club) remains closed; although we understand there has been a change of ownership so there may be something new next summer

-

In Playa des Bossa there used to be Sankeys (which we cant remember what it was called before!) and is now OCTAN

-

Zoo project used to be one of the unique experiences in Ibiza, but for a few years the site (the old Zoo in Ibiza) lay untouched but is now 528 - a destination restaurant with dinner and show; and sprawling gardens with DJ's

-

KM5 restaurant and bar was a real favourite for many years but remains closed. If you have a few spare million € you can buy the site and rebuild the venue back to it's heyday

-

Heart was a club and restaurant at Ibiza Gran Hotel. This closed during the pandemic and is now CLUB CHINOIS. Upstairs there was a restaurant which is now filled by ZUMA - a sushi restaurants with locations that include London & Mykonos

-

A few years ago Cathy Guetta opened "BIKINI" on the site of HARBOUR CLUB on Talamanca beach. At the time of writing the site remains empty although the signs in the window suggest the location has been rented

-

At Las Dalias market a new venue has opened up called AKASHA

-

W Hotel in Santa Eulalia has a club named BELOW; they claim the "most exclusive club in Ibiza"

-

In October 2022 Bora Bora on Playa en Bossa closed after 40 years...The spot had been redevelopoed as Playa Soleil - Beach Club / restaurant

-

Ibiza, perhaps in becoming less hedonistic, and more healthy. New five star spa hotels have opened up including SIX SENSES  and 7 PINES

-

NON SMOKING BEACHES

-

Many beaches in Ibiza have implemented non smoking beaches
Not only to improve the beach experience for non smokers and children but also to help keep the beaches clean and reduce butts being dropped in the sand

There are many other changes and there will continue to be many changes year after year as Ibiza doesn't stand still and with entrepreneurs and corporate entities looking to expand their presence in what is one of the best destinations in the world.

But reassuringly some of the best places, in our opinion, are the small traditional beach side restaurants doing what they have been doing for generations..and doing it brilliantly

Embrace the new, cherish the long standing family owned venues and make some new memories and discover some new favourites
